Acne is the most common skin disorder seen by doctors. In fact, it will affect almost every one of us at some time in our lives. It can happen at any time, but teenagers are the ones who get it most often.

Acne can cause a great deal of embarrassment and anxiety. If it’s really bad it can cause people to become depressed which can lead to withdrawing from friends, and perform poorly at school or work.

Our Acne Treatment Program consists of the following alternating sessions: 6 Silkpeels Treatments, 6 PCA Peels treatments,  and 6 IPL Photofacials treatments.  Our skincare specialist will work with you in order to determine the correct number of treatments, provide acne education, provide before and after care instructions, and offer other possible solutions.  Our Acne Treatment Program can work on any part of the body, however, the most common areas are the face, neck, back, chest and hands.

Frequently asked questions about acne Treatment

Who Gets Acne?
Acne is the most common of all skin disorders. Almost everyone will have acne, most get mild cases, some moderate and a few are severe. Teens aren’t the only ones who get it. Acne has been diagnosed in young infants as well as in the elderly, but it is most often seen in teens and young adults with 85-100% of adolescents and up to 10% of young adults getting it.

Acne seems to affect the sexes somewhat differently. Before children reach puberty, acne is more commonly seen in girls. During puberty, acne affects boys and girls almost equally, but boys generally have more severe cases and in adulthood, it tends to be seen more often in women.

Where Does Acne Develop?
You can have acne on any part of your skin where sebaceous glands are found. These are the glands that produce oil for the skin. Most, but not all people get acne on their face, but the skin on the chest and back can also be affected. Acne can also be seen on the arms and thighs, but is less common.

When Do People Get Acne?
Acne usually starts around the time you reach puberty, and usually will be mild. Often it will last for about 5 years, but can persist for as long as 10-20 years. About 25% of teens who have acne will still have it when they turn 25. The cause is not understood, but it’s becoming more common for women who are in their 20s, 30s, and 40s to develop acne often for the first time. Temporary acne is often seen on the faces of newborns.

How Does Acne Affect You?
Acne not only causes physical discomfort and damage, but it can also have a big emotional and social impact on your life. Acne (pimples or zits) can be tender and painful, and in extreme cases, the pimples can drain pus and blood, soiling pillowcases and clothing.

If you are feeling embarrassed and anxious about your appearance, this can be even more painful. Emotional effects can lead to mood changes, depression, social withdrawal and poor performance in school or at work. If acne is bad enough to leave scars, you may have to endure these emotional issues for years, because scarring is not readily correctable. While laser therapy and skin fillers certainly improve scars, it is best if you can prevent their formation in the first place.

Acne Treatment Program

1- Silkpeel:
SilkPeel can dramatically improve acne by multiple means, each addressing a specific cause and combining to bring amazing outcomes. SilkPeel acts as a "clean and safe superficial mechanical abrader", exfoliating the Hyperkeratinization (accumulation of the dead skin cells on top layer of the dermis). Simultaneously, it infuses a clarifying solution containing salicylic acid, which acts on the bacteria while also aiding in the exfoliation. To finalize the treatment - your skin care specialist may choose to hydrate the deep layers of the skin with a last pass of the hydrating solution. Even the worst breakouts may benefit tremendously from the SilkPeel treatment.

Skin Clarifying Solution with Salicylic acid
Salicylic Acid is a natural active extract of the willow bark and acts by exfoliating surface cell buildup. It also has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic benefits. A key ingredient in many skin-care products for the treatment of acne, psoriasis and more callous skin conditions, it works by causing the cells of the epidermis to slough off more readily, preventing pores from clogging up, and allowing room for new cell growth. Salicylic Acid is not to be used in people allergic to aspirin. Your best results will come with SilkPeel Hydrating solution applied in a second pass. As the acne lesions start diminishing, your skin gets healthier, and looks better from the 1st session.

Results:
Conditions usually improve a couple of days after the first session though further sessions are needed to achieve the desired outcomes. It may look reddish for a couple of days following each treatment, but ultimately the anti-inflammatory and therapeutic affects kick in and the skin looks much better.
After a several sessions, inflammation is the appearance of acne is greatly reduced; leaving the skin is beautifully reconditioned. This procedure can also be used for pustular acne (the acute form), and is effective for chest, back, shoulders and other parts of the body.

Sessions:
Usually 6-8 procedures; 1 per week for 6 weeks, then maintenance thereafter.

2 - IPL Photorejuvenation:
PhotoRejuvenation is a series of intense Pulsed Light treatments that improve the appearance of Rosacea, flushing, broken capillaries, sun damaged skin, age spots, skin texture, and photo aging. Treatment also improves mild acne scars, reduces large pores, corrects dark circles around the eyes, and reduces fine lines. Treatments are especially effective for improving the appearance of the face, neck, chest, and hands. This exciting treatment involves little or no "down time". You can resume normal activities immediately.

An intense light is applied in a series of gentle pulses over the treatment area. Without damaging the skin, the light penetrates through the skin and is absorbed by the abnormally dilated vessels or pigmentation. The heat causes damage to the vessel or lesion, and the body begins its natural healing process. The lesion will darken before it flakes off or the body absorbs it.

Results:
Using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), our Medical Esthetician can simultaneously treat a wide range of facial concerns safely and effectively, such as broken capillaries, skin discoloration, age spots, freckles, mottled pigmentation and the symptoms of rosacea, as well as reduce acne breakouts, and reduce the appearance of acne scars. Patients have a high degree of satisfaction with their results. Expect to see a gradual decrease in redness, broken capillaries, flushing, irregular pigmentation, pore size and fine lines. After each treatment, the skin will feel smoother and appear to have a more even tone.

Sessions:
Usually 6-8 procedures; 1 per week for 6 weeks, then maintenance thereafter.

3 -PCA Peel:
Chemical peels don't really peel the skin, despite what the name implies. They rapidly exfoliate the skin, allowing dead skin cells to shed more effectively. By keeping dead skin cells and excess oil from clogging the hair follicle, pore blockages (comedones) and pimples can be drastically reduced. Depending on the strength of the peel being performed, this procedure is very effective against removing large wrinkles and deep acne scars.

Results:
Chemical peels produce controlled injury to the skin which promotes growth of new skin with improved appearance. Many different chemicals are used for chemical peels and include glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid (TCA), salicylic acid, “Jessners” solution, and phenol. The different chemical solutions produce different degrees of injury of the skin. There are two layers of the skin; the outer layer is called the epidermis and the inner layer, the dermis. Superficial peels (such as glycolic acid peels) produce very superficial injury, confined to the epidermis. Superficial peels can help improve conditions such as acne and discoloration. Deeper peels (e.g. phenol peels) produce injury within the dermis and can reverse moderate-to-severe photoaging and wrinkles. In general, the deeper peels offer the most dramatic results but require longer recovery times.

Sessions:
Usually 6-8 procedures; 1 per week for 6 weeks, then maintenance thereafter.
